The family of Israeli soldier Shaul Aaron has called on the Hamas Movement to prove that its son is still alive in order to pressure the government into clinching a swap deal.
Zehava, the mother of Aaron, told a news conference held on Sunday in Galilee that she would do her best to make the Israeli authorities accept swapping prisoners with the Palestinian side in Gaza if Hamas proved that her son was alive.
The news conference was held to state the family's position on a letter Maariv newspaper claimed was recently sent from Aaron through mediators.
"I like to believe you. Show conclusive evidence about my son's condition and we will turn the [Israeli] state and the world upside down until a deal comes into effect," she said, addressing Ismail Haneyya, deputy head of Hamas's political bureau.
"I know there is a price for that, but the moment you present some evidence similar to what you had given the family of Gilad Shalit, we will turn the state and the world upside down until a swap deal is reached," she reiterated.
"I waited for one and half years and nothing happened. This situation must change," she said.
Zehava also demanded the Israeli government to swiftly work on getting her son as well as missing officer Hadar Goldin back to their families. She avoided to mention the name of a soldier from an Ethiopian origin, who is claimed by the Israeli media to be captive in Gaza.
Al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas announced on July 20, 2014 that it had captured Shaul Aaron during fierce armed clashes with Israeli troops east of Gaza City, while the Israeli side confirmed at the time he was killed.

Israeli forces early Sunday detained a former Palestinian prisoner who was released in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal, according to a local prisoners’ committee.
Fahd Sharaya was detained from the Balata refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, the coordinator for a local Palestinian prisoners’ committee, Imad al-Din Ishteiwi, told Ma’an.
Sharaya was initially sentenced to 14 years in jail but released in the Shalit exchange in 2011 after serving 10 years.
The former prisoner is a member of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades -- a military wing of the Fatah movement -- and is married with four children, Ishteiwi said, adding that Sharaya was in poor health at the time of his re-arrest.
An Israeli army spokesperson had no immediate information on Sharaya’s detention.
Several Palestinians released during the Shalit deal have since been rearrested or exiled to the Gaza Strip. Over 1,000 Palestinian detainees were released in the Egypt-brokered 2011 agreement between Hamas and Israel in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was held captive by Hamas for five years.
At least 50 Shalit-deal prisoners were rearrested in the summer of 2014 during a detention campaign referred to as "Operation Brother's Keeper," in which Israeli forces detained at least 800 Palestinians without charge or trial and killed nine civilians.
At the time of their re-arrest, Shalit-deal prisoners released a statement contesting Israel's violation of the deal, saying they had demonstrated commitment to its terms.
Nine other Palestinians were also detained in the occupied West Bank in Israeli raids early Sunday, an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an.
Four of those detained were from the Jenin area, while two “Hamas operatives” were detained from the Bethlehem and Hebron areas.
The PLO Department of Arab Relations told Ma'an that a director in the department, Ismail al-Amsi, was also detained near the Ramallah-area Jaba military checkpoint.
At least 6,700 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli jails, according to prisoners’ rights group Addameer.

Maariv newspaper said Sunday that the parents of Israeli soldier Shaul Aaron, who is claimed to be captive in Gaza, would hold a news conference tonight to clarify their position on a letter they had received from their son through mediators.
According to Maariv, Hamas sent a letter written recently by Aaron to his parents, starting with a heading reading, "From soldier Shaul Aaron: I want to be freed from captivity."
"My dear mom, I hear the rain falling around me, but I do not see it, nor do I feel it. I found that it has not been my right since I became a prisoner to wait for glad tidings about my return to you," a translation of Aaron's Hebrew letter read.
"I will not deny that they treat me nicely, but the feeling that you may have forgotten and care no longer about me have filled my heart with fear and distress; however, what sickens me most that I think you will forsake me for long years as the government have done with Gilad Shalit," his letter said.
"Mom, I started feeling cold and I am afraid of a harsh winter as last year's. Does your compassionate heart accept that I stay away from you for such a long time? Mom, when will you act and move for me? Do you accept being played by political games? Are you going to take empty pledges from our government?"
"They have promised us in the army that we will be back to our homes and mothers safe and sound, but they abandoned us, went without doing anything for me. I have come to know from my captors that I will not be able to go back before their prisoners are released," Aaron added in his letter.
He closed his letter by saying, "Mom, dad, I am asking you to do something for me."
Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced on July 20, 2014 that it had captured Shaul Aaron after attacking an Israeli armored vehicle during the last war on Gaza.

Emad Abd al-Rahim
"Have you ever seen a dinosaur? Have you thought of a dinosaurin the 21st century?" Dinosaurs are extinct. That’s for a fact. But in Israeli Jails, Palestinian political prisoners have named one for their comrades “the dinosaur”. Why was he called the dinosaur?
Emad Abd al-Rahim, a 50-year-old prisoner from Salfit, was known as the dinosaur, to the extent that almost no prisoner knew his real name.
Emad Abd al-Rahim was born and raised in Salfit in 1966. He was engaged in national struggle and resistance at an early age. He was first arrested in 1988, and was released one year later.
In 1992, Abd al-Rahim was arrested again as he attempted to drive a booby trapped car, prepared by Palestinian engineer Yahya Ayyash, into the occupied Palestinian lands of 1948. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, of which he spent 19 years transferring between all the Israeli prisons.
Emad Abd al-Rahim was known for his resilience and struggle against the Israeli occupation in and out the Israeli jails, and he once attempted to escape Shata Prison in 1998, along with 24 Palestinian prisoners.
Freedom then imprisonment
For all these traits, he was called the dinosaur; however, Eman along with all his brothers in arms refuse to fall extinct despite Israeli occupation brutality.
Abd al-Rahim was set free in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange that followed an agreement between Israel and Hamas to release captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for 1,027 prisoners in 2011.
Abd al-Rahim got married after he was released and he had a daughter, Amina, whom he named after his mother who passed away while he was in prison.
In 2014, the Israeli authorities re-arrested him after the disappearance of the three Israeli settlers in Hebron. He is still in prison today as the Israeli court reinstated his previous sentence, and is imprisoning him to complete the left 11 years, thus violating the agreement brokered by Egypt and throwing to the winds all understandings about freed prisoners.

Israel's supreme court on Thursday turned down an appeal against life sentences filed by seven ex-detainees, who were rejailed last year after their release as part of the 2011 Palestinian-Israeli swap deal.
The court rejected the prisoners' appeal against their detention and the reactivation of their previous life sentences, and confirmed the renewed prison orders issued against them, Amjad Abu Asab, head of the family committee for Jerusalemite detainees, stated.
Abu Asab said the prisoners, six from Jerusalem and one from Ramallah, were ex-detainees and rejailed in 2014 after the Israeli occupation army and police launched a mass arrest campaign in the West Bank and Jerusalem in reaction to the kidnapping and killing of three young settlers near al-Khalil city.
The prisoners are Aladdin Bazaan, Jamal Abu Saleh, Adnan Maragha, Naser Abed Rabbo, Rajab Tahhan, Ismail Hijazi and Nidal Zalloum.

The wife of the Palestinian prisoner Nael al-Barghouti said on Monday that the Israeli Occupation Authority (IOA) banned her from visiting her husband despite possessing a visitation permit. The IOA claimed lack of coordination with the management of Negev prison.
Barghouti is the oldest-serving prisoner of the Palestinian captives in Israeli jails. He spent a total of 36 years including 34 consecutive years in jail. He was released in the Wafaa al-Ahrar swap deal in 2011 then rearrested mid of 2014 and sentenced to 30 months.
Palestinian Prisoner Society underlined that the IOA escalated its policy of banning Palestinian families from visiting their relatives during 2014 and 2015 especially after imposing collective punishments on Palestinian detainees last June and July.

Court hearings are due to be held on Wednesday to look into appeals filed by four Palestinian prisoners, who were rejailed in 2014 by Israel after their release as part of its 2011 swap deal with the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society, the Israeli judges at the Ofer military court will listen to appeals filed over renewed Israeli prison verdicts issued against Nael Barghouthi, Mahdi Asi, Zuhair Iskafi, and Samer Isawi.
Nael Barghouthi, from Ramallah, was sent to jail again in June 2014 and received a 30-month prison term after he enjoyed freedom for some years following his release in 2011 as part of the Palestinian-Israeli swap deal.
Barghouthi had spent 34 years of his life prison term before his release.
The other three prisoners were also rejailed last year and given their previous prison terms, which range between 20 to 30 years.

Al-Majd security website published a letter addressed to families of Israeli soldiers who are reportedly detained in Gaza Strip calling on them to pressure the Israeli government to release their sons.
The letter stated that the Israeli government is stalling and not caring about those soldiers.
The website quoted a resistance source as saying that the pressure that was practiced by the family of soldier Gilad Shalit in the period that preceded his release had accelerated the swap deal in 2011.
The source pointed out that the Israeli government will not succeed in solving the issue of the Israeli soldiers detained in Gaza by intelligence and military methods. The source said that Israel must pay a price for having information about the captives. It also disclosed that Israel tried to get information on the Israeli detainees via intelligence means but failed.

In a press release on Thursday, Bahar said that the PLC had sent several letters to international and Arab parliaments to highlight the issue of the Palestinian prisoners and their right to freedom.
He called for necessarily making international parliamentary moves to pressure all competent authorities to work on having the prisoners released from Israel's jails.
In a related context, the Palestinian lawmaker phoned ex-detainee Mohamed Allan and congratulated him on his release from Israeli jails following over two months of hunger strike.
He urged the Palestinian resistance to swiftly work on extracting the freedom of all prisoners through a new honorable swap deal.

The father of Shaul Aaron, the Israeli soldier who was captured last year by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, appealed to his government to respond to all demands made by the Hamas Movement for swapping prisoners.
According to Maariv newspaper, Aaron's father sees no solution in sight for the release of detained Israeli soldiers without submitting to the demands of Hamas.
"Give Hamas all it wants, even if it asked for thousands of prisoners, including Marwan al-Barghouthi. Let them take him," the newspaper quoted the father as saying.
Soldier Aaron had been taken prisoner by al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas during fierce armed clashes with Israeli troops east of Gaza City on July 21, 2014.

The Palestinian resistance is working all day and night to restore the freedom of Palestinian detainees and oust the Israeli occupation, Hamas said Sunday evening on the anniversary of the Wafa al-Ahrar prisoner swap deal.
Hamas hailed the Palestinian detainees held in the Israeli occupation jails, vowing that the group and its armed wing will try every possible means to restore their freedom.
“We shall never have a moment’s rest until all detainees are released in an upcoming Wafa al-Ahrar 2 deal to be struck as a direct outcome of the latest Israeli offensive on blockaded Gaza,” the resistance group vowed.
“This year we’re marking the anniversary of the Wafa al-Ahrar at a time when our people has risen up to defend the holy al-Aqsa Mosque against Israel’s desecration schemes and stand on guard to settler terrorism,” Hamas said.
“The uprising will keep going until no single Israeli usurper is left on our motherland,” the movement added.
Over 1,000 Palestinian male and female detainees were released in the Wafa al-Ahrar prisoner swap deal struck with the Israeli occupation in 2011 under Egyptian mediation.

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) issued at dawn Thursday a demolition notice for a local home in Nablus belonging to the ex-detainee Nimer Haj Mohamed who was exiled to Gaza.
Family sources told the PIC reporter that IOF soldiers stormed and violently searched their home early today.
During the raid, the Israeli commanding officer notified the family of the decision to demolish the three-story home within two weeks.
The Israeli officer also informed the family that their father Nimer has been named in the Israeli list of assassination targets.
The ex-detainee Nimer was arrested in 2004 and sentenced to life term sentence before being released during Shalit Swap Deal in 2011 and sent to Gaza.
He spent seven years out of his sentence, in addition to 11 years in previous arrest.
Israeli authorities have tightened restrictions and punitive measures against Palestinians in an attempt to prevent any further deterioration in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Over the past week, there have been increasing clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians over the storming of the al-Aqsa Mosque by settlers, who are being backed by Israel's right-wing government.
