The Israeli Ofer military court re-imposed the old sentence of life imprisonment and 18 years against prisoner Nael al-Barghouthi, who was released in the Wafaa al-Ahrar prisoner exchange deal, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society on Wednesday.
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) re-arrested Barghouthi in a revenge campaign in 2014 that was launched in response to kidnapping and killing three settlers in al-Khalil city. The campaign resulted in arresting more than 60 ex-prisoners who were released in the Wafa al-Ahrar prisoner exchange deal in 2011.
Barghouthi was sentenced to 33 months, yet after the end of his new sentence, the Israeli court re-imposed the old sentence following an appeal filed against him.
For his part, Qaddoura Fares, the head of the Palestinian Prisoner Society, said that the Israeli court committed a new disgraceful act by re-enforcing the old sentence on Barghouthi, especially after the ruling which was issued yesterday sentencing the Israeli soldier who deliberately murdered the Palestinian young man Abdel Fattah al-Sharif to 18 months only.
Fares pointed out that the Israeli courts proved once more that they are only tools in the hands of the Israeli political and military institutions to repress the Palestinian people and whitewash the real criminals.
He called on all international organizations to condemn this ruling, compel Israel to respect the international agreements, especially prisoners’ agreements, and work to secure the release of Nael al-Barghouthi and other prisoners who were re-arrested by the IOF after being released in the Wafa al-Ahrar deal.

All the temptations and threats made by the Israeli occupation to know the fate of the soldiers held captive in Gaza are just futile, Hamas leader Musheer al-Masri said on Sunday evening.
According to al-Masri, the armed wing of Hamas resistance movement—al-Qassam Brigades—will never yield in to Israel’s threats and blackmails as regards the prisoners’ issue.
Speaking during a ceremony held in eastern Khan Younis, to the south of Gaza Strip, to mourn the al-Qassam resistance fighter Ahmed Assaad al-Berim, al-Masri said: “Al-Qassam intellect has created a strategic balance in terms of the deterrence mechanisms that will bring about victory.”
“In al-Qassam’s thesaurus, truce is not synonymous with passivity and submissiveness; it rather designates a state of alert whereby tens of thousands of fighters are being trained on the ground and underground, and at sea,” he noted.
The Palestinian MP added that the flames of the Palestinian resistance will not wind down until every single inch of occupied Palestine, including Jerusalem, is liberated.
“There is no way that Gaza could eat humble pie or surrender to the Israeli threats and blackmails,” he vowed.
“The episodes of the Palestine epic will be written by our legendary detainees in their struggle for freedom in Israeli jails, where they have been locked up for dozens of years,” al-Masri concluded.

Israeli court of Ofer is going to decide, next Wednesday, on the appeal filed against Palestinian prisoner Nael al-Barghouthi, 59, by Israeli Attorney General in protest at the court’s previous ruling which sentenced him to 30 months of actual imprisonment.
Palestinian Prisoner Society quoted the wife of detainee Barghouthi as saying that Israeli prosecution asked the court to enforce the old sentence of life imprisonment and 18 years against captive Barghouthi who is from Koper town near Ramallah.
The old sentence against Barghouthi ended on December, 17, 2016. Israeli authorities, however, kept him detained since he was arrested in 2014. He was among the released detainees in Wafaa al-Ahrar swap deal and served a total of 36 years and 2 months in Israeli jails.

Hamas’s armed wing—the al-Qassam Brigades—revealed Israeli proposals for a prisoner swap deal.
Quoted by al-Jazeera TV Channel, a senior leader from the al-Qassam Brigades said Hamas has recently received proposals put forth by regional and international broker-parties for a prisoner swap deal.
The Qassam commander said the deal does not live up to Hamas’s expectations.
He denied Israeli claims that a deal will be struck in exchange for trade concessions.
The Qassam commander added that such counterfeit news make part of “a psychological war” waged by Israel, saying Hamas will never accept attempts to turn the prisoners’ cause into a bargaining chip.
Meanwhile, the Qassam resistance brigades gave instructions to the department in charge of the well-being of the Israeli captives in Gaza to take into consideration the latest violations against the Palestinians in Israeli jails.
The remarks by al-Qassam were released just a few days after a senior Hamas delegation popped in Cairo, for the first such move since the Egyptian coup.
Last April, al-Qassam said four Israeli soldiers have been held captive by the brigades, refusing to give further details before a rewarding swap deal is struck with Israel.

Palestinian female prisoner Randa Shahatit was released from Israeli jails late Tuesday after she waged a hunger strike for 17 days.
Shahatit, a mother of three children, was re-arrested on January 20, 2017 after being released during Wafa al-Ahrar swap deal for allegedly violating the deal terms.
Shortly after her release, Shahatit told PIC reporter that Israeli authorities charged her of planning to carry out anti-occupation attacks.
On January 20, I was stopped at an Israeli military checkpoint near Fawar refugee camp and transferred for investigation, she said.
I was then held in administrative detention for 48 hours before being extended to 17 days despite my difficult health condition, he continued.
“Thus, I decided to declare a hunger strike in protest against my administrative detention.”
After refusing food for ten consecutive days, Shahatit was released on a bail of 10,000 shekels.
Her driving licence was also withdrawn for a whole year.
Israeli authorities also threatened to re-impose her previous four and a half years sentence, of which she served three years, in case of any further charge.
Shahatit spent more than six years behind Israeli bars in two separate arrests.
50 Palestinian women, including 11 minors, are currently held in Israeli jails amid very difficult detention conditions.

Simcha Goldin, father of the Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin who has been captured by Palestinian resistance since Israel’s 2014 aggression, called on Israeli Keenest to press on Netanyahu’s government for his return.
Israeli media sources quoted Goldin as saying that "For two and a half years the Knesset and the government haven't done anything. We hope now that the Knesset will push the government to do what is necessary so that Hadar will be brought to Jewish burial.”
Goldin’s statements came during a Knesset meeting marking the establishment of a pressure group to bring back the Israeli missing soldiers.
“We have come to encourage the members of Knesset to influence the government to do its duty," said Goldin.
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas Movement, had announced the capture of a number of Israeli soldiers during Israel’s 2014 aggression on Gaza, refusing to give further details until the release of all Palestinian ex-prisoners who were re-arrested after being released in Wafa al-Ahrar exchange deal.

'What about Avra Mengistu? Mengistu is also part of the country. Maj. Gen., what about his safety?' yelled protestors, interrupting current IDF Planning Directorate Amikam Norkin's speech on national security; a month ago Education Minister Naftali Bennett was similarly interrupted during a speech; Mengistu has been held by Hamas since 2014.
A speech delivered by IDF Planning Directorate and appointed Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin was interrupted Monday during a conference on research focused on matters of national security by members in the audience who demanded to know what is being done to secure the release of Abera Mengistu, an Israeli currently being held by terrorist group Hamas in Gaza.
"What about Abera Mengistu? Mengistu is also part of the country. Maj. Gen., what about his safety, why hasn't the tape been made public?" yelled out the protestors during his speech, before being removed from the auditorium. After the yelling ceased, Norkin continued his speech.
Abera Mengistu has been held by Hamas since voluntarily crossing the border into Gaza in September 2014. His family has said that he suffers from mental illness. Two other Israelis, Hisham al-Sayed and Jumaa Ibrahim Abu-Ghanima, are also being held by Hamas after reportedly crossing into Gaza of their own accord on two separate occasions.
Earlier this month, Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Bayit Yehudi) was forced to cut short a speech he was delivering at a National Student Union event held at Tel Aviv University, due to a loud demonstration staged by several dozen protestors who burst into the room and called for Mengistu's release.
Norkin's speech focused on cutting edge technology used by the IDF to fight global terrorism. "ISIS is using advanced technology. The IDF has to contend with non-kinetic threats, with cyber being a central one. We estimate that we will no longer have a two week evaluation period, as we did during the Six Day War," he said. "The IDF Intelligence Directorate is dealing with dozens of entities it has to neutralize, and on a certain level, it's hard to deter them."

Palestinian detainee Nael al-Barghouti, 59, was slightly injured in his right hand and left leg after he fell down inside the so called “Bosta”, prisoner transfer vehicle, while he was handcuffed and his legs were tied up while being transferred from Rimon jail.
Captive Barghouti, from Kober town near Ramallah, told the lawyer of the Palestinian Prisoner Society who visited him in Gilboa jail that he is still suffering from severe pain in his left leg and that he did not undergo any medical examination yet.
The Palestinian prisoner Barghouti, who served 36 years in Israeli jails, called on Egypt to intervene for ending the suffering of the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, who were rearrested after being released within the Egyptian-sponsored Wafaa al-Ahrar prisoner swap deal.
